Cuba

Cuba was discovered by Christopher Columbus on 27 October 1492. Cuba became Spanish colony and was ruled by a Spanish governor in Havana.  However, in 1762 this city was briefly taken by Britain before returning it in exchange for Florida.  In 1902, Spanish-America war lead to Cuban’s independence and the island’s economy became heavily dependent on America till the beginning of 20th century.  In 1959, Fidel Castro led Cuban revolution, which ousted Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista, and ever since Cuba has undergone US embargo.  Cubans are among the friendliest and proudest people in Latin America.
